This is why we can't have nice things

Post boxes across the US are to be dressed up as Star Wars robot R2-D2 to celebrate 30 years since the release of the sci-fi series' first outing.
Some 400 boxes will get the new look, including outside Hollywood's Grauman Chinese Theatre, one of first cinemas to screen the film in 1977.

The makeover is part of a post office campaign for the announcement of a surprise stamp on 28 March.

The public have been urged not to tamper with the droid mail collectors.

(BTW, can you believe we still don't have a Star Wars category?)

ETA til these start showing up on eBay instead of on street corners?

What right does the U.S.P.S. have to claim that they are Jedi Masters?! I'd like to see the documentation to back that claim up! I've never seen a postal worker use the force to sort mail or fend off an angry dog. Yet the U.S.P.S. claims, by proxy of the web address tattooed across this R2D2 mailbox, that they are uspsjedimaster(.com).

Am I to take it that each individual USPS employee is a certified Jedi Master, or that as a collective the entire USPS functions as one Jedi Master? And how will this mastery of the force affect shipping times and our postal rates? This reeks of the dark side.

they are pretty punctual with their releases and subsequent increase in price. and since they redid the mailboxes. this isn't that much of a surprise
