SuperMegaSpeed Reviews

She-Hulk #22 - Despite beating us over the head with a few puns, this was pretty good. Good enough to keep trying for a few more issues, anyway.

Wraith #4 - It seems that people who are not as invested in Marvel continuity like this series/character a lot more than i do. I think in part it might be because it doesn't require as much backstory knowledge as other books might. So i wonder how they will feel about a resolution that hinges pretty heavily on knowing who the Supreme Intelligence is. I also find the Clint Eastwood ("homage") ending a bit much, but overall this was OK.

Daredevil #101 - Brubaker writes a really good Daredevil. I'm liking this story alot. And i love the use of the Hood. I'd like to see the Squadron of Evil thing continue to spill into other titles without actually being a formal crossover the way Stern's Masters of Evil plot did.

I feel that the final pun (I don't really recall feeling there were any before that one) was really a dig by David of his critics that don't like the puns, sci-fi/pop culture references, etc.

As far as Wraith, I think it is the weakest of the current run of annihilation minis, and I thought this issue was the worst. I find the character generally unispired, and his one unique trait (the phalanx are scared of him) has now been negated (unless I read the issue wrong).

And because I know you are dying to hear it, here's how I'd rank the eight initial minis of the annihilation event: Starlord, Nova (mini), Silver Surfer, Quasar, Nova (ongoing), Wraith, Super-Skrull, Ronan. This could still change when the final issues come out.

Oh, and the Hood being in Daredevil I knew you'd love. LOVE! I believe Bendis/Brevoort told everyone their plans for the Hood and said anyone can use him. Definitely works within a Daredevil story.

Astonishing X-Men #1-22: Man, these were good, even the 'Danger' story, but particularly the first arc. No wonder this book's schedule gets a lot of leeway. Great stuff.

He hit us with the "little woman" pun like 4 times, and the FBI thing was a bit much too. The pain in the neck thing was definitely a dig at people who complain about his puns, though, and overall the writing was good enough that i was able to overlook it. Plus... Absorbing Man!

Yeah, Astonishing is good and i bet it's better when you read it all at once.

I think i agree with your Annihilation ranking, although i may swap Silver Surfer with Quasar.

I kinda skipped over the 'little woman' thing. Though it's obviously a pun, I could see Absorbing Man calling Titania that no matter what, so I guess it didn't really register.

Was the FBI thing technically a pun? (just not sure of the technical definition here, not trying to pick nits). either way, a joke for sure, but, to me, She-Hulk acknowledged the joke in a semi-serious way ("I say that so people confuse the two and get really scared"). Plus, I could easily see an bounty hunter type organization picking that name in real life for just that confusion. It didn't bother me as much as you (obviously). but, David's peccadilloes are definitely on your radar.

Didn't you read when Silver Surfer became the herald again? Because that was the definition of awesome. AWESOME! That beats gay space monsters any day!

I should also have said that Wraith is vastly superior to the two minis below it.

House Of M #1-8: Better when read as a whole. Some of the plot problems I had with it are explained, but some remain. Still not great, maybe a good.
