As i was driving, i noticed a horrible mess in the road up ahead. Clearly, some animal had been run over. As i got closer, i realized spattered horse guts covered the street. I knew they were horse guts because the head was miraculously intact. I had to swerve into the oncoming traffic lane to avoid the worst of it. The carrion birds were as tall as the hood of my car and not interested in moving out of the way for anyone. I drove past one dead horse, then another, and another.

I felt someone touch me from behind. I turned and grabbed his arm with both of my hands.

He smiled. "It's like being held by a hummingbird."

I wondered if kicking out his leg would distract him enough to give me a chance to swing my foot up into his groin.
