Review/plot:
This issue is largely a flashback showing Black Axe in ancient Egypt, 3,000 years ago. A thief named Horem is hired to rob the tomb of Amentah, an advisor to the past three pharaohs and then a ruler himself before his recent death. The goal is a pair of gauntlets that grant great strength.

Horem infiltrates the tomb and winds up donning the gauntlets for himself.

But the person who hired Horem, Irudef, also hired Black Axe to keep an eye on him.

Hawt outfit, BA!

Horem finds that the gauntlets drain energy from the host, leaving the wearer weakened and eventually sucked dry.

After beheading Horem, Black Axe learns that Amentah isn't really buried in the tomb. Black Axe reasons that Amentah is immortal (like him), faking his death every so often to hide that fact.

This might have led somewhere if the series wasn't canceled after the next (unrelated) storyline.

Quality Rating: D+

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: A framing sequence places this in the present day. Black Axe is sitting on his castle's rooftop, thinking about these events and wondering where Amentah might be.
