Captain America Comics #5Issue(s): Captain America Comics #5 Review/plot: The UHBMCC gives the credits above. The Essentials instead says it was Stan Lee on story and Joe Simon on art with no mention of Kirby or Avison. Considering Essential got the issue number wrong, i'm going with the UHBMCC credits. The story has Cap and Bucky traveling to Devil's Island in occupied France to rescue a fighter pilot. In the process they fight a shark... ...and a Vichy Commandant. Captain America Comics #5 also had the Golden Age Ringmaster and the story about the Dragon Boat that Roger Stern re-uses in his Marvel Universe story, and i'd rather have either of those stories instead of this one, but i've got what i've got and we don't let anything go to waste around here. Quality Rating: D+ Chronological Placement Considerations: N/A References: N/A Crossover: N/A Continuity Insert? N My Reprint: Essential Captain America vol. 1
CommentsDevil's Island is a real island in South America that the French used as a prison until 1953. The French didn't send any prisoners there after the Second World War started, though. Posted by: Michael | December 29, 2012 9:59 PM Comments are now closed. |
