Review/plot:
This is a crossover from X-Man #12, and i didn't read that but we'll do the best we can. Things start off with a few quiet moments - Kitty and Pete talking, Colossus and Nightcrawlker talking, and Captain Britain and Meggan are taking a nap - but soon the team is under attack from X-Man. X-Man has been deceived by Excalibur's prisoner, the acolyte Spoor, into thinking that Excalibur are the baddies. So this is a Misunderstanding, but instead of belaboring that, Ellis defies expectations and has Moira MacTaggert immediately offer to let Nate read her mind.
The rest of Excalibur join in as well.
And that's it. A simple nonviolent solution. It makes the story feel a little light! But it's a nice change of pace.
At is by Carlos Pacheco, who will be the new "regular" artist although there will be regular fill-ins (mostly by Casey Jones, who had been drawing the past couple of issues).
Quality Rating: B-
Historical Significance Rating: 1
Chronological Placement Considerations: Continues directly from X-Man #12
References:
- Continues from X-Man #12.
- Nate Grey comes from the Age of Apocalypse.
- Pete Wisdom is still recovering from the beating Colossus gave him in Excalibur #92.
- When Nate reads Moira's mind, we get a few flashbacks including the loss of her son in Uncanny X-Men #128 and of the Phoenix from Uncanny X-Men #136-137. Neither of those losses were exactly permanent but the point is the corruption of power that both mutants experienced.
