Fantastic Four #416Issue(s): Fantastic Four #416 Review/plot: A kind of goofy thing that can happen when the last issue of your series is part of a crossover: the main villain makes you fight constructs of all your old foes. Another thing that happens in this issue is that all of the auxiliary Fantastic Four properties - the Inhumans, Sub-Mariner, and Agatha Harnkess - show up. Even Black Panther and Fantastic Force are included. And so is Dr. Doom. I guess the idea is that they might also be included when the characters are killed off/shunted into the Franklinverse (this was something i was never really clear on). Nathaniel Richards - who was convinced until two issues ago that Hyperstorm was responsible for the erasure of the FF and other heroes, is now telling everyone that Onslaught is going to wipe them all out. It's no wonder that no one listens to him. I also thing it's funny that he could see the result of Onslaught (but not the event, until now) and could also see far enough into the future to see Days of Future Past and all its variations, but never saw the Heroes Return. A back-up story with Buscema/Palmer art is narrated by the Watcher. It examines Doom's origin, the explosion at Empire State University, and asks us to wonder how things might have turned out if Reed and Doom had reconciled: Reed might have kept Doom from damaging his face, and Doom might have helped Reed shield his crew from cosmic rays. Quality Rating: D+ Chronological Placement Considerations: This is an Impact 2 book. Dr. Doom takes notice of Onslaught at the start of this issue and shows up at Four Freedoms Plaza at the end. The flashback from X-Men #56 is probably when Dr. Doom arrives in New York, between his two scenes in this issue. However, it also reads fine as him showing up here and then going off to fight some Sentinels in the X-Men issue. References: N/A Crossover: Onslaught Continuity Insert?
