Review/plot:
American Eagle has a new costume.

Wow, dude. Really? That beak? Look, getting rid of the red white and blue Native American chief motif is totally understandably. Last time you just took off your headdress and that was an improvement, but it did leave you looking a bit generic. So i can see the need for an update. And it is the 90s, so the pouches are of course obligatory. The mohawk was a bold choice, and i think i approve. But that nose!

(All of American Eagle's costumes so far are by Ron Wilson. Wilson is the only person to draw American Eagle outside of some "draw every super-hero" scenes like Contest of Champions.)

American Eagle is helping the reservation police hunt down a gang from the reservation led by Jimmy Littlehawk. They've robbed a casino.

Eagle is supposed to stay out of it, but he jumps in when it turns into a shooting match. Littlehawk takes a hostage, and then Littlehawk's father shows up.

The father is forced to shoot his son. He doesn't kill him, and Eagle punches him out. The father then wonders why they are losing their young to hate and anger.

That's depressing, so here's this out of context panel to cheer us up.

American Eagle will get a new look when Warren Ellis writes him during the first Civil War "event" storyline. He gets a bike complete with retro-styled helmet and leather jacket.

Surprisingly, Ellis has the Eagle cripple Bullseye instead of using Eagle as cannon fodder, which is what I was fearing.

That first arc of Ellis Thunderbolts was great. I thought Eagle was gonna become a bigger character after that.

American Eagle is looking a little Daken-esque there...

Has Ron Wilson’s artwork degenerated into 90’s crap from this issue on? Until the Giant Man-Goliath stories, it followed that old clean house style and suddenly this... Does anyone know more on this? Is it similar to what happened to Herb Trimpe?
