Marvel Two-In-One #8

Issue(s): Marvel Two-In-One #8
Published Date: Mar 75
Title: "Silent night ... deadly night!"
Credits:
Steve Gerber - Writer
Sal Buscema - Penciler
Mike Esposito - Inker

Review/plot:
It's Christmas...

...and the Thing goes to investigate a Star of Bethlehem type occurrence so that the rest of the FF, especially Reed, can take the night off. He encounters Ghost Rider...

...and the two of them engage in a weird re-enactment of the birth of Jesus myth in a Native American village...

...except with the added complication of the Miracle Man hanging around. Yep, the Miracle Man again.

This is a silly throwaway issue.

Comments

There was some strange scheduling problems with this title at this time. Originally, #8 was supposed to be Thing & Thor and #9 Thing & Shang-Chi. Then, Thing & Thor got pushed back to #9, and #10 was supposed to be Thing & Iron Fist. Chris Claremont did the scripting over Gerber's plot for #9, and did #10 himself with Black Widow instead of Iron Fist. I'm guessing that Claremont was the office quick fill-in guy at the time before Bill Mantlo got put in that position, considering Claremont had the same function on Len Wein's last Defenders and Gerber's last Daredevil.

Please show the two panels depicting the Thing & Ghost Rider as Wise Men giving gifts in the manger. They made me laugh my head off when I first read them, and they are still some of the most unintentionally funny panels Marvel ever did(or possibly intentionally; you never know with Gerber).

Done!
