Shanna the She-Devil #2

Issue(s): Shanna the She-Devil #2
Cover Date: Feb 73
Title: "The Sahara connection!"
Credits:
Carole Seuling - Writer
Ross Andru - Penciler
Vincent Colletta - Inker

Review/plot:
Shanna is contacted by a SHIELD agent...

...and asked to help stop a plot by an Arabian drug lord and slaver. I'm no criminal mastermind, but it seems to me there must be easier ways to transport heroin than hijack a French space rocket.

Shanna and her leopards do fine rescuing the slaves and preventing the hijacking.

In the letters page for issue #5, a reader complains about the fact that Shanna killed one of her jailers when escaping. I remember being a little shocked by that too, but Shanna isn't a super-hero, and i was actually impressed by the choice to have her kill. The response to the letter is that if it was Nick Fury who killed a guard while escaping, we probably wouldn't have blinked, which is probably true, but the fact that the jailer was killed by being eaten more or less on-panel by leopards makes the scene a lot more brutal than someone getting shot by a gun.

Here's your obligatory bondage shot for the issue.

Comments

This story was reprinted in The Super-Hero Women. Nice art by Andru, and a good, solid story by Seuling. Very international woman of adventure, with a sense of humor. "Are you sure that cat will not attack?" "95% certain."
