Tomb of Dracula #52

Issue(s): Tomb of Dracula #52
Cover Date: Jan 77
Title: "Demons in the mind!"
Credits:
Marv Wolfman - Writer
Gene Colan - Penciler
Tom Palmer - Inker

Review/plot:
After showing the vampire hunter cast burying Blade, the majority of this issue focuses on the mysterious figure that Dracula was so afraid of in the previous issue.

We start with the historical perspective. Twice, Dracula was nearing the completion of a conquest when he suddenly just stopped and turned around thanks to this entity's appearance.

And now Dracula fights him in the present day.

He assumes that the creature is an agent of Satan...

...which makes sense especially since Dracula has been posing as Lucifer with Anton Lupeski's Satan cult. But the creature reveals that it is in fact an agent of Heaven.

Quality Rating: C+

Historical Significance Rating: 2 - first full Golden Angel

Chronological Placement Considerations: In issue #53, it's said that it's only the third night since Blade was absorbed by his doppelganger, so i'm keeping these issues relatively close.

References:

  • In the present day, Dracula encounters the Golden Angel in a movie theater playing a version of Dracula starring "that foolish actor I met a while back". I assume that's a reference to Louis Belski from Dracula Lives #4.

Crossover: N/A

Continuity Insert? N

My Reprint: N/A
