The story is that you and your twin sister are trapped in an ancient village. The village basically has its own hellmouth and they used to keep it closed by having one twin sister strangle the other. Well, at some point, one generation of twins decided that mebbe that's not how they wanted to do things and decided to run away. One twin ends up back at the village and they toss her into the hole. But the hellmouth opens anyway, so the village is cursed and you and your sister got trapped. Now you go thru the entire game trying to get you and your sister out. Do you know what happens at the end? Do you? It ends with you strangling your sister. Yep. That's right. All that time wasted trying to escape and you end up strangling your sister to death. But more than that is just ridiculous. I'm not talking about generic monsters that you always have to keep fighting throughout the game. I mean the exact same monster resurrected and stronger. Friggin Fatal Frame II not only makes you seek out the same ghost after you already killed it once, but you've got to do it 5 times. 5. FIVE. And gawd do i hate the ghosts that crawl.
