Castlevania III Companions

Tired of politics, so let's talk videogames!

I've been working my way through the Castlevania games via the Wii emulator over the past year or so, and i'm up to Castlevania III. In this one, you get to bring along a companion that you meet along the way. There's a thief and a wizard, as well as Alucard, Dracula's son.

Haven't found Alucard yet. But i've found the other two. Both are completely useless. Much more than i remember. Terrible reach, easily damaged. The thief can walk on walls and ceilings but it's impossible to control and in a game with "off the board = instant death", it's not worth the risk. The wizard's spells are powerful, but your ability to get them is random (like the main character's axe or knife), and since his melee attack is extremely weak, you're dependent on how many hearts you've collected.

I'm hoping Alucard is better. I'm sure he won't be as awesome as in Symphony of the Night, but he's got to be better than these losers.
