Review/plot:
This is part of Dazzler's introductory circuit where she appears in X-Men and then Spider-Man and Fantastic Four in quick succession. In this issue, her powers accidentally bring back Lightmaster from "the Light Dimension", which is apparently where he disappeared to after his last appearance.

As an introduction for Dazzler, it's pretty good at demonstrating her powers and establishing the fact that she's attractive, but she spends half the issue a prisoner and/or possessed by Lightmaster so it doesn't go far in establishing a personality for her.

The most awesome thing we learn about her is that the disco ball necklace that she always wears around her neck seems to have originally been intended to be the way she should would focus her powers.

Also in this issue Harry and Flash go to see the Star Trek movie (but it's interrupted by Lightmaster & Dazzler) and a quick set of panels showing Peter in his civilian life, turning in photos for Bushkin, visiting Aunt May, and teaching a class.

References:

  • When Spider-Man first sees Dazzler being chased by a ball of light, he assumes it's the Will O' The Wisp. No footnote, but the Will O' The Wisp had only appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #167-168 so far.
  • It turns out the Lightmaster was trapped in "the Light Dimension" at the end of Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #20.

Comments

This issue was criticized because Peter took time to meet Bushkin, visit Aunt May, teach a class, etc. all before going looking for Dazzler. Sure, Peter, take your time looking for Dazzler and hope the Lightmaster doesn't force her to kill someone or something.

Methinks Spidey pulled at the end of this issue.
