Amazing Spider-Man #29Issue(s): Amazing Spider-Man #29 Review/plot: The Scorpion blames Jameson for creating him. Spidey stops him. Peter is wearing an orange vest over a navy blue shirt this issue. Possibly now that he's out of high school he's dressing differently. Peter overhears JJ and Foswell talking about a cat burglar and the theft of scientific equipment. Also, Aunt May has a fainting spell. These are set-ups for three different plots that will occur in the next few issues. It's unusual for upcoming plots to be set-up in stories from this time period. Quality Rating: B- Chronological Placement Considerations: I've had to push a number of Spider-Man issues back in publication time so that Gwen Stacy's first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #31 takes place between Fantastic Four #40 and #44 (see the Considerations section in Spider-Man/Fantastic Four #1 for more). CommentsApparently, Marvel couldn't reprint this story for years because it was missing from their archive; it was finally purchased specifically so it could be included when Marvel Tales started reprinting from the beginning again in the 1980s. It's yellow isn't it? Anyway, yeah I've noticed a few commenters here mention before that Ditko dressed Peter and his teenage friends like Young Republicans. I assume they had gotten letters with similar comments so they were starting to change that. Peter stopped wearing a tie a couple of issues back I think and now he's wearing whatever this is. There's some awkward scripting in the opening panels of Peter changing and going to a bank and then walking down the street with his new duds. The words match the action (sort of) but there's still something off about it. Posted by: Robert | February 20, 2016 2:06 PM Didnt the last issue say that this issue would have two villains? I only noticed scorpion Posted by: Roy Mattson | May 10, 2017 3:35 PM Maybe Jameson is the second villain? He's pretty villainy here. Posted by: J-Rod | May 10, 2017 3:57 PM The last issue said this issue would feature the return of two familiar faces, not two villains. It said the first is Scorpion and the second it left open. They meant Ned Leeds. Posted by: Robert | May 10, 2017 8:46 PM Though I think of Scorpion as a classic Spider-Man villain, after this he won't fight him again for an entire decade (fighting Cap twice in between). Noticing these things almost makes me want to track all the classic 60's villains and see how often they actually appeared, both against their classic foes, and at all. Posted by: Erik Beck | April 15, 2018 12:20 PM A lot of classic Ditko villains disappear when Romita is drawing the book. In addition to Scorpion, Sandman and Molten Man don’t come back until after he leaves, and Electro, Chameleon, and Mysterio have only one appearance each.
