Review/plot:
Moping around after Gwen leaves, Peter thinks back on his origin. Along with the recap of his career, we get a nice splash page with his rogues gallery.

He also stops the Beetle from... well. The Beetle wanted to get at an importing company's vault. So instead of breaking into the vault, which i assume would have been more difficult, he decided to break into another store in the same building and get at the vault through the wall. Except he didn't know which store shared a wall with the vault so he ended up breaking into all the stores over the course of a few days, which isn't very stealthy or clever.

This was all going on in Aunt May's neighborhood, and she wound up at the grocery store while the Beetle attacked. Spidey saves the day, of course.

Peter refers to his Spider-Man costume as "icky" this issue.

That splash page looks very familiar. I think Marvel used it for a long time as a generic picture of Spider-Man and his villains in ads and such. It really is pretty great.

Stan Lee really, really liked the Beetle. He gets a surprising number of appearances across multiple titles as long as Stan is writing, then pretty much vanishes as soon as Stan leaves.

The origin recap includes the encounter with a jerk on the street and the crushed lamppost detail which Romita first added to the origin story in Spectacular Spider-Man #1. It's probably to illustrate Pete's newfound strength w/o replaying the classic wrestling contest.
