Review/plot:
UHBMCC: Complete list of inkers given in The Official Marvel Index to the Avengers (II) #4. The credits just say "Embellishers Assembled".

A boy shows up at the Avengers Mansion seeking the Avengers' help.

It turns out he's Morgan MacNeil Hardy, an immortal man (of Turner D. Century fame) that wants the Avengers help in committing suicide.

While they debate whether or not they'd even want to help him commit suicide (only Iron Man is comfortable with it), Morgan runs off. Along the way, he's attacked by hoboes who look like Laurel and Hardy (i'm assuming this is Tepper and Andy, who were seen previously in Ghost Rider #41-42).

Morgan winds up at a NASA base where he gets himself launched into the sun. He comes back as a fiery monster...

...which the Avengers defeat and kill. But even then, Morgan is once again reborn, possibly without memory of his past lives this time, although it's strongly hinted that he actually does still have them. Despite that, this is his last appearance.

Chronological Placement Considerations: This issue has been pushed back in publication time to sync up with dependencies between Avengers #219, Fantastic Four #241, and Amazing Spider-Man #229.

  • Iron Man first wonders if Morgan is one of the boys that Cap is always bringing around to the Mansion. Er... (It's a reference to Captain America #267.)
  • Morgan previously appeared in Captain America #264 and Spider-Woman #33.

Comments

This was my first, and for a long time only, avengers issue. I'm surprised my folks let me buy it with a kid pointing a gun at his own head on the cover.

I remember wondering who the extra avenger in the box was.(yellowjacket)

And there were two creepy hobos who looked like laurel and hardy (the comedic actors) who seemed ready to rob and perhaps even rape Morgan on a train, but Morgan scared them away with a gun.

The Avengers seemed to fight a lot of fire villains in the early 80's. (Avengers #192-193, #206, possibly another one...)

Btw, why is there a "Morgan Hardy" tag in the Characters Appearing, right next to the expected Morgan MacNeil Hardy one?

Removed the duplicate tag, thanks.
