Review/plot:
This is a Hawkeye & Ant-Man team-up story. The rest of the Avengers only show up for a single panel at the end. Hawkeye & Ant-Man fight the Taskmaster at a carnival.

This issue has the semi-famous sequence where Ant-Man rides on Hawkeye's arrow so he can reach and disable a bomb embedded in a dummy launched from a cannon. So thanks to everyone involved for making it possible for me to type that sentence.

The Taskmaster escapes in the end.

Seems like that panel has gotten some traction in the last decade since an Avengers cartoon used it and I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel Studios does something with it.

Would not be surprised at all.

That "Ant-man rides Hawkeye's arrow" tactic was a super-move in Marvel vs Capcom 3

Now, I wouldn't want to spoiler anything...:-D
Scott Lang has become the ultimate stealth winning character
for Marvel Studios- Paul Rudd's depiction has everything they did right back here and in Invincible Iron Man.
I liked the character-driven arcs of this time in Avengers, and this fill-in is no exception- in fact, it's very in-keeping with contemporary stories.

I've always found funny the panel where Hawkeye and Ant-Man catch up to Taskmaster and Tasky says in a startled manner "Hawkeye? A-And Ant-Man?" That may be the only time (to my knowledge) in Ant-Man's history, going back to when Hank Pym first donned the helmet and antennae, that Ant-Man inspired fear/nervousness in anyone, particularly a badass foe like the Taskmaster. Wish there was a scan of that, but oh well.

In addition to the "Ant-Man on the arrow" panel sequence, the cover to #223 features a closer view of Hawkeye prepared to fire with Ant-Man crouched on the arrowhead and the tagline "When Ant-Man and Hawkeye join forces.... SOMEBODY'S GONNA GET IT!" This is a cover I believe can be sarely tucked in the "so silly it's still cool" category.

Don't know if I should've said surely or safely tucked, but either works better than the "sarely" I initially typed!

I like to think Taskmaster was stuttering because he was struggling to remember who Ant-Man was. Of course, with his memory issues, that's not quite the burn it might otherwise be.

Both Mego style Hawkeye and Marvel Legends Hawkeye include an arrow with ant Man attached to them...
