Review/plot:
This is billed as an "addendum" to Legion Quest but it really takes place concurrently with events in the final two main issues of this crossover, and is largely a downtime issue focusing on the relationships between Cable and a couple other characters, namely Domino and Cyclops and Jean Grey (although a good portion of the beginning of the issue also recaps events from the main issues). There was a time when downtime issue were kind of a unique thing that did some good character work and sussed out new insights, but nowadays - especially when done under the backdrop of some mega-event - they wind up feeling like filler, and that's the case here. Combine that with the usual 1990s spittle-flecking shouting...

...and the usual 1990s warped anatomy...

...and this is another chore to get through (especially if you're reading this in an Age of Apocalypse trade and just want to get to the AoA stuff).

In addition to Cable's relationships, a few moments are reserved for non-cast members; for example, we see Angel deciding to spend his last few moments before the end of the world thinking about his relationship with Psylocke (who is trapped in the past) and spending time with the Beast, and we see Gambit and Rogue hashing out their usual relationship problems.

But the big news is Cable revealing that he knows Scott and Jean raised him in the future...

...and Cable and Domino admitting that they love each other.

Quality Rating: D+

Historical Significance Rating: 2 - minor developments for Cable

Chronological Placement Considerations: Takes place during Legion Quest.

References:

  • This story begins with Cable returning from his trip to the past in Uncanny X-Men #321 (and obviously generally spins off of events from the issues in that entry).
  • Scott and Jean went into the future to raise baby Cable in Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix #1-4.
  • Scott and Jean were married in X-Men #30.
