Captain Marvel #5

Issue(s): Captain Marvel #5
Cover Date: Sep 68
Title: "The mark of the Metazoid"
Credits:
Arnold Drake - Writer
Don Heck - Penciler
John Tartaglione - Inker

Review/plot:
After watching Captain Marvel's battle with Namor and his failure to deploy the germs in New York, Ronan the Accuser basically puts him on notice. Captain Marvel returns to Earth to wipe the memory of the hotel clerk who suspected him of being a spaceman in issue #2, but the Soviets have unleashed the Metazoid to capture Marvel's alter-ego, Dr. Walter Lawson.

Mar-vell defeats the creature with an x-ray device because it reminded him of that one time on Galaxy-7 with the Vintar. Actually i like the idea that Mar-vell is a battle hardened soldier with a lot of experience under his belt, especially since he's generally portrayed as such a milksop in this book. Then Mar-vell mindwipes the poor old hotel clerk and flies off.

The Metazoid doesn't exactly have an inspired design.
