Review/plot:
Cloak and Dagger track down the boat that brought the drug shipment they stopped last issue to America, and wind up traveling on the boat to France.

They meet a stowaway named Bill Clayton who will journey with them for a while.

They discover that the drug trade is only part of the picture. In return, electronic parts are being shipped to "Bulgaria".

Cloak and Dagger fail to stop the shipment, but they do destroy the boat and zap a number of the smugglers.

Last issue we saw Dagger becoming more extreme in her vigilantism, but in this issue Cloak is the more lethal...

...and in the end he worries that he is pushing Dagger too far and so he's unable to argue against it when Clayton suggests they take time off for a "vacation" in Europe and Dagger agrees.

Back in the US, Father Delgado is rejected when he requests that the Catholic Church perform an exorcism to remove the "demons" from Cloak and Dagger. As Michael notes, there are hints that there is actually a demonic force lurking inside Cloak. These scans are from two separate occasions in this issue:

Meanwhile, Mayhem continues to be Mayhem.

If nothing else, Cloak and Dagger have always been blessed with top quality artists. Rick Leonardi exited last issue, and this issue we have Marc Silvestri. Next issue will be Mike Mignola, and then Art Adams. Inker Terry Austin has a lot to do with the look of the series, though.

Quality Rating: C+

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Cloak and Dagger are in Europe beginning this issue and shouldn't appear elsewhere until they return (excepting Doctor Strange #78, which takes place while they are in Europe, between issues #8-9).

References:

  • Dagger considers alerting the authorities about the drug shipment in Marsielle, but Cloak says that the authorities are probably already aware and just corrupt, like the police they saw in Cloak and Dagger #5.

Comments

Regarding Delgado's exorcism request- one development you haven't noted is that we've been seeing evidence that Delgado is right about there being a demon inside Cloak's cape. In this issue, for example, we see a pair of eyes watching while a criminal experience nightmares inside Cloak's darkness.

Added scans of two separate instances of that from this issue. Thanks, Michael.
