Review/plot:
This is a nice fill-in issue by Larry Hama. Not as nice as the one by Alan Brennert last issue, but pretty good.

It starts off with Daredevil visiting an old friend (that, of course, we've never seen before. Such is often the way with fill-in issues). He's a veteran, now working as a guard at an armory. Daredevil arrives to find that the sergeant has been fatally shot, and someone stole some anti-tank missiles.

They also took his trusty side-arm, and he dies telling Daredevil the story of how it once saved his life. We don't get to hear the end of the story, but Daredevil has heard it before.

So Daredevil beats up the hired goons that get left behind after the heist and gets a lead on who arranged the theft, and soon he's booked on a cruise as Matt Murdock. He meets a girl named Willow who is a magician performing a show on the cruise.

Daredevil originally suspects a guy on the cruise, but he comes to realize that the guy was set up as a patsy, and Willow is actually the main culprit. He confronts her and her goons.

Eventually Willow gets Daredevil dead-to-rights with the sergeant's gun, but when she pulls the trigger it backfires.

Then we find out the rest of the sergeant's story: when a grenade exploded, the gun caught a bit of shrapnel right in the barrel, preventing it from slicing open his head.

Great little war story, exactly what you'd expect from Larry Hama. And of course nice art by Janson.

Comments

About 3 years later, Janson's art would degenerate a bit to making everybody look 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide.
