Review/plot:
Micah Synn takes a back seat for a Hydra story involving the Black Widow. It's a "get the microchip" story, and the Black Widow has been captured. She's forced to give a message to Matt Murdock (to give to Daredevil). She tries tapping out a morse code message while she talks, hoping Matt will pick up on it.

Unfortunately the connection was bad and Matt can barely hear the main message, let alone the tapping.

But despite some confusion, and the death of the Russian defector that Daredevil was supposed to capture for Hydra, and the fact that Hydra set a trap for DD that involved disabling the Black Widow's vocal chords, Daredevil is able to defeat Hydra and rescue the Widow.

This is William Johnson's last issue, and i really do like his art but for whatever reason he didn't do much more for Marvel.

Micah Synn isn't completely out of the picture this issue. He's in the hospital, manipulating the media by making it seem like Daredevil attacked him for no reason last issue. He's evolved since his earlier appearances, learning the ropes of this new society but still ruthless. It's good development.

Foggy is about to set the record straight, but he's stopped by Debbie. Poor henpecked Foggy has no idea where this is going.

Matt and Gloriana continue to hit it off.

There's a random cameo by Power Man & Iron Fist, which was neat.

Fun story. I like that Synn isn't the focus but his plotline is still developing.

Quality Rating: B-

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Luke & Danny's appearances are as context free as you can get and there's nothing going on in their books right now that would dictate placement.

Comments

"Krapotkin" may be a reference to the 1967 James Coburn film "The President's Analyst".

Trns out the Black Widow is kinda responsible for Karopin's death. She tries to wash it away by saying "I did not think Hydra would find him. His family will receive a large sum of money." cold, but in character for the spylady.

Black Widow does the speaking-while-tapping-out-morse-code trick again in a later 'Daredevil' issue.
