Daredevil #305-306Issue(s): Daredevil #305, Daredevil #306 Review/plot: Looking at the covers of these issues, i was sure that they were fill-ins. Frankly, i was hoping that they were reprints from Spidey Super Stories. The Surgeon General? Really? But these are indeed by regular writer D.G. Chichester. Scott McDaniel is the new regular penciler, too. The Surgeon General is just a literal surgeon that seduces men and then cuts out their organs to sell them on the black market. ![]() ![]() She's not a general, and in any event you don't get to be a super hero just by capitalizing the name of your profession or a clever (?) pun. On the other hand, credit for having a goon squad of people dressed like you. ![]() And, somehow, she does give our heroes Spider-Man and Daredevil a surprisingly difficult time. ![]() Oh, and her last name is Kutter. I think that goes in the plus column. ![]() Her first name is unfortunately Angeline. I'm trying to think what would be better. Organa? Oh oh oh! But here's the highlight of the story: Peter Parker undercover, trying to lure out the Surgeon. ![]() That mustache is incredible, Peter. Maybe you should grow one for real. The Surgeon General winds up taking herself out, slicing herself with her own blade. I mean... i guess that's what happens? ![]() Any reaction, Spidey? ![]() Ok... A set-up for the next story has a group of mobsters in Las Vegas talking with D.G. Chichester's pet character Terror (as Ataru320 notes in the comments, this would have been his first published appearances as a Marvel universe character, although i already having him appearing earlier in my project)... ![]() ...and since he's too expensive, they realize that they need to get a lawyer. And who better for the job than that guy that used to work for the Kingpin, Foggy Nelson? CommentsPeter Parker's porn-stache...classic. I know Linkara covered this infamous two-parter...I need to rewatch that. Posted by: Ataru320 | February 25, 2016 11:16 AM Jonathan Fishman is the drummer for the jam band Phish. The band was not very well known, at the time. Posted by: Yogi deadhead | February 25, 2016 3:39 PM This seems like a very silly story from Chichester despite him styling himself as a successor to Frank Miller. Posted by: Red Comet | February 25, 2016 10:50 PM Just seeing that this was the Surgeon General story had me re-watching those AT4W episodes. Posted by: Morgan Wick | February 25, 2016 11:56 PM This seems like a very silly story from Chichester despite him styling himself as a successor to Frank Miller. Miller's original run has a lot of comedy issues; "Guts" Nelson and the Power Man/Iron Fist crossover issue come to mind, as does "Turk steals the Stilt-Man armor." Posted by: Omar Karindu | February 26, 2016 7:11 AM I don't think this was meant to be a comedy issue, though. Posted by: fnord12 | February 26, 2016 7:23 AM No, it strikes me more as an attempt at a Batman-style antagonist; Chichester seems to be brinign in themed psychotics at this point in his run, what with Taskmaster suffering an "imitative psychosis" and the Owl doing the whole Man-Bat routine. Posted by: Omar Karindu | February 26, 2016 10:14 AM Also, Chichester had Tombstone develop a need to belong (even crying after being refused to join the Hand), although in that case, Tombstone's villainy being motivated by a sense of being an outcast had been hinted at in the past (his "friendship" with Robbie, his speech about how an albino is a black man trapped in a white man's skin). Posted by: Michael | February 26, 2016 7:41 PM Wouldn't this be bumped up to 2 due to being the first published appearance of Terror outside Epic Comics (where he was Shreck?) Posted by: Ataru320 | February 26, 2016 8:18 PM Terror looks way too much like Dark Horse's Mask. I also have difficulty believing that Chichester didn't know about the Surgeon General from Miller/Gibbons' Give Me Liberty(which Dark Horse also published). Posted by: Mark Drummond | February 26, 2016 11:59 PM @Ataru320, thanks for pointing out that this was Terror's first MU appearance by publication date. I don't think i'll add a significance point since it's a very meta sort of detail. It's not his first actual appearance in a comic, and it's not his first chronological appearance, and it's not an appearance that treats him like a new character. But i've added a note in the entry. Posted by: fnord12 | February 27, 2016 10:03 AM Your friendly neighborhood porn-stache. I'm a little torn between being ashamed on Chistester's behalf ("fremdschämen" in German sounds way better than the translation) or putting these issues on my must-have list just for the Amazing Porn-Stache-Man.
