Review/plot:
This issue begins with the second group of Midnights Sons, led by Morbius, fighting a group of Lilin at the Brookyln Bridge.

Morbius later leads the group to an abandoned laboratory.

Modred takes Jinx under his wing and trains him in the mystic arts.

Meanwhile, over at Dr. Strange's house, we see Victoria and Sam (who are part of the first group of Midnight Sons). Victoria is suffering from nausea. Sam notes that Victoria hasn't eaten anything recently, so the idea that she's suffering from food poisoning is "as likely as morning sickness". Also at Strange's house, Ghost Rider is trying to get Strange to agree to search for group #2 and warn them about the traitor they learned about last chapter. But Strange says that it's too dangerous to wander the Lilin mists.

And so it is that Louise Hastings is attacked and killed by Moribus.

She found by Frank Drake. Hastings manages to say "Mo" before she dies. Drake interprets that incorrectly and assumes that Modred killed her.

I know they have the same first letters, but i wouldn't have assumed that the Mo in Morbius was pronounced the same as in Modred.

An attack by the Lilin adds to the chaos...

... but then Frank learns his mistake.

Quality Rating: D

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: This is part four of Siege of Darkness. Part five is in Morbius #16.

References:

  • At the very beginning of this issue, we see Speakeasy, from Darkhold #5, screaming about an increasing number of dead that he can hear. (Speakeasy's power is the ability to hear the dead.)
  • Blade taunts Modred by asking him if he's scared if he'll kill him again, as he did in Darkhold #11.
  • The lab that group #2 is at is one that Morbius used in Morbius #1.

Comments

One would also expect the scene evidence to at least hint towards Morbius instead of Modred. Frank Drake looks rather hasty and prejudiced here.

Considering how untrustworthy and manipulative Modred has been shown to be, it's not surprising that Drake jumps to conclusions. Having said that, it's not like Morbius is any sort of trustworthy paragon of virtue, either, especially when he gets the munchies.
