Review/plot:
After stopping the inevitable mugging attempt that seems to happen every few issues of Dazzler...

...Alison tells her weirdo 1970s lawyer boyfriend that she couldn't tell the police how she stopped the thugs because of anti-mutant sentiment.

Then Warren Worthington III shows up. He's decided he wants to woo Dazzler. When he fails to charm her as Warren, he reveals that he's also the Angel.

It still doesn't do much for her, and she's already got her (goofy) boyfriend, but Angel gets into real stalker mode and starts showing up everywhere...

...and spying on her. Creepy! Worse, Allison eventually relents and lets him fly her around the city. She gets to making out with him within the span of a few pages.

Later, they get into a fight with Doctor Octopus, who's just broken free from a prison transport.

Dazzler makes it clear that she has no interest in super-heroics, and the Doc Ock fight is the deal breaker for her. She goes back to giving Warren the cold shoulder, but he snoops around her apartment and finds out that she's been searching for her mother, so he decides if he can find her, he'll win Dazzler's heart.

The Absorbing Man shows up in the last two panels looking for Dazzler.

As i've been *ahem* chronicling (for purely academic reasons, i assure you), it seems we can't go a single issue without a scene with Dazzler getting naked.

She's always showering or changing her clothes on panel. To be fair, I've seen quite a bit more than i'd like of Tony Stark and Peter Parker stripping out of their costumes as well.

I'm not usually one for the "so bad it's good" type of thing, but i've got a bizarre fascination with this series. Dazzler's actions towards Angel, rewarding him for his stalkerish behavior, are absolutely appalling, but i dunno. It's all kinda awesome.

  • Dazzler meets a Vanessa Tooks, a friend of Beefer and a back-up vocalist. Vanessa saw Allison sing in Dazzler #1.

  • Angel references the last times he met Dazzler, at the club in Dazzler #2, and again in Avengers #211 when Moondragon mentally compelled a bunch of heroes to show up to audition for membership in the Avengers.
  • "A couple of months later", Angel was injured in a battle with Ghost Rider in Avengers #214.

Comments

Angel's depiction in this series was described in the Comics Journal as "...a callous, arrogant jerk with the intelligence of a fire hydrant...".
