Cover Date: Mar 84
Title: "Tidal wave!"
Credits:
Jim Shooter - Writer
Frank Springer - Penciler
Vincent Colletta - Inker

Ralph Macchio - Editor

Review/plot:
Harry Osgood has arranged for Dazzler to watch the filming of the movie, and she attracts the attention of the the stunt man, Bill Remington.

She then shows no qualms about renting a room from a pair of mutant-haters...

...and then gets a job as an aerobics instructor.

Later, she hears from Harry again. He's decided to stop being her agent, on the grounds that he's not able to be effective all the way from New York. That's the last of her original supporting cast.

Bill starts showing up at Alison's aerobics class, and she relents and agrees to date him.

A few of the above images are re-used in the Dazzler: The Movie graphic novel. Between that and the fact that Bill's wooing of Ali reminds me a lot of similar scenes with the Beyonder, there was a lot of deja vu for me reading this issue.

Bill, however, is destined to not be a permanent love interest for Dazzler. During one of their dates, they find out that a big tidal wave is about to hit Los Angeles. So Bill decides to go back to his house. It turns out he's got some emotional issues and the house has special meaning for him. Dazzler goes back to the house with him and they nearly spend their last few minutes making out, until Dazzler comes to her senses.

Bill resolves to die in the house alone, but Dazzler goes out and zaps the tidal wive.

This saves Bill but he decides he needs time to get his head together.

So this issue was billed as a New Beginning last issue, but it's really still primarily a romance/soap opera comic. It's just in a new setting.

I admit a touch of surprise over bill using the phrase "making love"...I thought it was common at Marvel, or at least Mark Gruenwald , to use phrases like "make nice"..."forget you" or "holy spit"

The guy who hires Dazzler's last name is Witwicky, just like the main humans in Marvel's Transformers comic that begin later this same year.

Nice touch that Dazzler glows instead of turning on the lights
