Review/plot:
In this issue Dazzler gets a job as a singer in a nightclub (the owner is probably equally interested in the spectacle of having a mutant on stage, but she does wow him with her singing).

The piano player at the club turns out to be a Ginger Rogers style actress named Julia Walker. And her Fred Astaire, named Michael Wyatt, turns out to be the Tatterdemalion, and he's been lurking around the club scaring away the dancers because he doesn't like that Julia's career died after they split up.

Dazzler, of course, is not scared away and instead defeats the Tatterdemalion...

...and forces a reconciliation with Julia.

The Tatterdemalion had three appearances prior to this, and i currently only have one of them (and not his first). From the little i've seen, though, this doesn't seem to fit so well with his past appearances. The intriguing thing about the Tatterdemalion was how he destroyed the property of wealthy people. There is a nod to that here (he's called a trashcan Karl Marx)...

...but it's a side note. The story makes it seem like he's been primarily lurking around Julia, Phantom of the Opera style.

Linda Grant was an Assistant Editor at Marvel at this time. This seems to be her only in-continuity writing work at Marvel.

Comments

I had some of Dazzler's early issues with the disco outfit & then this issue with nothing in between. Alison sure has fallen far from facing Marvel A-listers like the Enchantress and Terrax.
