Doctor Strange #54

Issue(s): Doctor Strange #54
Cover Date: Aug 82
Title: "Alone!"
Credits:
Roger Stern & J.M. DeMatteis - Writer
Brent Anderson & Paul Smith - Penciler
Terry Austin & Josef Rubinstein - Inker
Al Milgrom - Editor

Review/plot:
This issue has a five page framing sequence by Stern/Anderson/Austin and then a main story told in flashback by DeMatteis/Smith/Rubinstein.

In the framing sequence, Strange is still grieving over his loss of Clea.

The flashback has Strange and Clea going up against some followers of Tiboro.

Aside from a cute sequence at the end where Clea asks Dr. Strange to grow his mustache longer...

...it doesn't really have much to do with current storylines.

Quality Rating: C+

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: As Morgan notes in the comments, the opening sequence takes place "twenty-four hours" after Clea's departure at the end of the last arc. The framing sequence features Dr. Strange only. The flashback takes place some indefinite time in the past ("...was it last spring?").

References:

  • In the flashback, to get information, Strange visits the detective he met previously in Dr. Strange #30.
  • Tiboro was first seen in Strange Tales #129.

Comments

Michael Golden was announced as doing a 6-issue run on this title starting here, but evidently that didn't happen.

You seem to be treating this as though it can be any amount of time after last issue, as long as Dr. Strange has been busy enough not to think about it, but your first scan says it's been "twenty-four hours" since Clea left. Can Defenders #106-115 all be squeezed into that twenty-four hours?

Yes, thanks. I guess i was ignoring the temporal reference, as is my George Olshevsky-given right, but i can make it work and i've pushed this back.
