Excalibur #93Issue(s): Excalibur #93 Review/plot: It could have just been a rational, adult Rahne showing that she's no longer frightened of Craig, but Ellis does go a little further down the comic book-y/soap opera-ish route by implying that Craig is her father. The description of Rahne's mother fits with her being called a "dockyard tramp" in New Mutants #44. Another revelation in this issue is a demonstration of Meggan's increased power levels. In this issue she's able to utilize her elemental connections to detect the activities of Shane, and she's also able to contain Shane's uncontrolled fire. It's nice to see the growth for Wolsbane and Meggan (in addition to the power upgrade, Ellis also has her moving away from the "empathetic shapeshifter" idea that basically ensures her codependency). And the story is well written with some nice funny bits, including Pete Wisdom anticipating Patrick Stewart playing Professor X in the movies. Still, plotwise, it feels very light. The Craig situation might have been a nice subplot in a denser issue, but as the sole story, it's very fluffy. Quality Rating: C Chronological Placement Considerations: Nightcrawler leaves the group early because he is supposed to call the Beast, who might therefore be considered behind-the-scenes.
