Issue(s): Fantastic Four #218
Cover Date: May 80
Title: "When a Spider-Man comes calling!"
Credits:
Bill Mantlo - Writer
John Byrne - Penciler
Joe Sinnott - Inker

Review/plot:
Spider-Man has been captured by the Frightful Four (currently featuring Electro as its fourth rotating member) and Paste Pot Pete is now disguised as him, using his glue and suction cups to mimic Spidey's webbing and wall crawling abilities. He infiltrates the Baxter Building and the Human Torch, the Thing, and the Invisible Girl are all taken unawares.

But the real Spider-Man breaks free in time to help Mr. Fantastic.

I enjoyed this scene with the FF mocking and terrifying the Trapster.

And a nice bonus pin-up in the lettercol from Joe Sinnott:

Comments

Archie Goodwin was originally announced as new FF writer beginning with this issue, but the firing of Rick Marschall by Jim Shooter caused Archie to grab the editor spot of Epic magazine instead.

I never buy into the notion that Sue can't turn her clothes invisible - there's too much evidence over the years of her turning other things invisible.

But those panels of the Thing / Trapster confrontation are hilarious.

Wait a minute...Reed uses a vacuum cleaner to defeat Sandman...the same tactic Spidey used in his first appearance!? (yeah cosmic-powered but still) Though his face does look funny when he's being sucked in here.
