Review/plot:
Despite what it looks like on the cover, this issue does not show a fight between Ghost Rider and Nightcrawler's hefty older sister.

Seer takes Ghost Rider to the Night Club. She begins to tell him the story of her people, The Blood, who trace their roots to a time before Atlantis, and who even then battled the demon Zarathos.

She's interrupted (violently) by the Caretaker, who doesn't want Danny Ketch to know everything yet. Danny objects, and Caretaker attacks him, griping that Danny's pathetic and that he doesn't really need innocent blood to transform and that he and Ghost Rider are one and the same. Ghost Rider tosses Caretaker away, and then Seer has a vision. Centurious, who has Johnny Blaze captive, is having Blaze carved up to locate the medallion that he's seeking. Seer leads Ghost Rider to Centurious's lair, where he has to fight through a number of minions, including Deathwatch.

Ghost Rider rescues Blaze, whose body is exploding with hellfire through the cuts that were made to him.

Note that Deathwatch is saying that Danny Ketch was never meant to become Ghost Rider. It was really his sister Barbara. We've heard that before, from Caretaker in Ghost Rider #39, but it's new information to Danny.

Deathwatch is blasted away and Ghost Rider takes Blaze to Quinn (son of Eli McIntyre) for help. Meanwhile, Centurious leads Lilith and the Lilin as they escape to the Cypress Hills cemetery with Danny Ketch's mom.

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: This is part three of Road to Vengeance. Part four is in Spirits of Vengeance #15.

  • Continues from Spirits of Vengeance #14.
  • Centurious' team got Deathwatch in Spirits of Vengeance #9-10. They also have the chain that Ghost Rider used to bind him. And it was also in that arc that the Beasts of Styge slaughtered most of the people in Johnny Blaze's carnival.

Comments

Note that the implication seems to be Deathwatch was really after the medallion the night Barbara was hit by the arrow- which is completely inconsistent with his behavior that issue.
