Haunt of Horror #5 (Gabriel the Devil Hunter)Issue(s): Haunt of Horror #5 (Gabriel the Devil Hunter) Review/plot: This happens repeatedly. So the woman does what any sensible mother would do, and she takes her baby to the doctor and says, hey doctor, i think something's wrong with my baby. Does his face look a little weird to you? Ok, the woman's a little more upset than that, understandably. But the funny part is when Gabriel the Devil Hunter shows up. An exorcist? My infant baby's a demon?! No no no! It's just growing fangs and a giant tongue and saying horrible things to me in my dead husband's voice. I'm sure there's a perfectly rational medical explanation. But Gabriel does convince the mother to let him do his exorcism. The next interesting thing is that the demon implies that Gabriel is a racist and Gabriel doesn't exactly deny it. I find the whole back and forth between Gabriel and the demon baby to be pretty funny. Gabriel does manage to exorcise the demon, basically the same way the demon from the previous issue was defeated, by getting the mother to love the baby despite the possession. One other thing of note in this story is that Gabriel spends the beginning of it a wreck, trying to drown his memory of demons in drink. The final Gabriel the Devil Hunter story until 1980 is in Monsters Unleashed #11, but it doesn't follow up on this directly.
