Review/plot:
Like last issue (which is placed out of sequence for continuity reasons), this is a fill-in that was published after Steve Gerber had more or less left the series, although he still gets a credit as Writer/Editor here. Since Mark Evanier is credited with "Plot", i'm assuming Gerber wrote just the script, but he may have done more. This is one of the few things that Mark Evanier did in the Marvel universe. Evanier can be funny (i very much enjoy his scripting on Groo, for example) but the plot here tackles what feels to me like a tired subject of telethon grift (i acknowledge that it may have felt fresher at the time).

The issue as a whole reaches unacceptable levels of zaniness, which is always my problem with Howard the Duck even in the best of circumstances.

Goniff's name is a reference to gonef, the Yiddish word for thief.

Alter Ego #135 stated that David Kraft and Roger Slifer were offered this book after Gerber got fired, but they both turned it down out of solidarity with Gerber.
