Hulk #118

Issue(s): Hulk #118
Cover Date: Aug 69
Title: "A clash of titans"
Credits:
Stan Lee - Writer
Herb Trimpe - Penciler
Herb Trimpe - Inker

Review/plot:
Lady Dorma finds Bruce Banner floating on the surface of the ocean after his battle with the Leader and she brings him down to Atlantis for medical attention - "such as he can receive only in Atlantis".

This medical attention seems to involve laying on Dorma's bed.

A Mistress Fara, who is upset that Namor has never seen fit to even notice her (and we've never noticed her either, since this is her first and only appearance), uses Dorma's suspicious activities as a way to turn Namor on her.

Namor, a complete idiot, falls for it immediately and storms off to find Dorma. Of course at this point Banner has turned into the Hulk.

Namor and the Hulk fight for a bit...

...and during the fight Hulk gets knocked onto an island and turns back into Banner. Namor lands on the island and only sees a man in ripped up purple pants, so he turns around and leaves, just like the last time he and the Hulk fought in Tales To Astonish #100.

Quality Rating: C

Historical Significance Rating: 2

Chronological Placement Considerations: Needs to fit in a gap for the Sub-Mariner. The MCP places it between Sub-Mariner #16-17. Namor loses his gills at the end of the Sub-Mariner #17-18 arc so this ought to take place prior to that.

Is this Herb Trimpe inks? Looks more like John Severin.

The credits in the issue don't specifically list an inker. UHBMCC lists Trimpe as the inker. I can see why you say it might be Severin; it looks like the art circa Hulk #110.

When Roy Thomas went to create the Defenders did no one say to him, uh Roy, every time that Namor and Hulk end up in the same place they fight. Guaranteed.
