Human Torch Comics #30

Issue(s): Human Torch Comics #30
Cover Date: May 48
Title: "The Hyena strikes!"
Credits:
[unknown] - Writer
[unknown] - Penciler
[unknown] - Inker

Review/plot:
The Torch and Toro foil a plot involving the hijacking of truck cargo. They also end the menace of women trying to drive trucks by themselves.

The bad guy of the piece is a non-powered but weird looking criminal called the Hyena.

Despite a terrifying opening page...

...he doesn't put up a fight once the Torches show up.

Quality Rating: D

Historical Significance Rating: 2

Chronological Placement Considerations: This comic was published in 1948 and therefore seemingly takes place after World War II. However, this is the Hyena's first appearance, and he later appears in Invaders annual #1, where it's explicitly said that this event takes place before Pearl Harbor. However, for an added complication, see Avengers West Coast #83.
