Iron Man #185

Issue(s): Iron Man #185
Cover Date: Aug 84
Title: "Terror in Tulaluma!"
Credits:
Denny O'Neil - Writer
Luke McDonnell - Penciler
Steven Mitchell - Inker

Review/plot:
More attacks from the Zodiac (actually, it's all Aquarius this issue) as James Rhodes travels west with Tony Stark and the Erwin siblings.

After a couple of attacks, Tony Stark decides it's enough and he grabs the Iron Man helmet and uses it to call in SHIELD who say they'll take things from here. Rhodey doesn't like that at all.

Iron Man's gauntlets are supposed to be broken and Iron Man is wearing regular red gloves. If that's the case, i don't know how he does this.

Last issue we learned two of the titles in Rhodey's kung fu collection: Kung Fu Mamas Fight the Ninja Hippies and Kung Fu Teacher and the Killer Kindergarten. This year, we learn one more: Chiropodist of Bruce Lee. Unfortunately, all of the videos were destroyed in a Zodiac attack from last issue, and they don't seem to be available on Netflix.

This book is doing a good job building the tension between Stark and Rhodes.

Quality Rating: B

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Takes place soon after Iron Man #184, but not necessarily directly after.

References:

  • The Zodiac are after Iron Man after he broke up a fight between two Tauruses in Iron Man #183. They incorrectly think he learned something about their plans; the truth is he didn't really care.

Comments

obviously Rhodey learned to crush guns by watching "Kung fu Mammas fight the Ninja Hippies."

I've been reading the Iron Man Epic Collections lately and I just read this issue last night. I was under the impression that Rhodey's "gloves" were actually metal gauntlets, just without the repulsors or any other tech in them.
