Review/plot:
You can't keep MODOK down. Even dead, you can run him by remote control and send him up against Iron Man. And his mere corpse will give Iron Man a run for his money.

The set-up for this is Yorgon Tykkio, who we learn is the brother of the current AIM Scientist Supreme. He's unhappy that now that MODOK is dead, AIM is using him for mobile computing, as MODOC was originally designed for.

So he stealthily appropriates MODOK and sends him after Iron Man. Tony Stark, meanwhile, is looking for his next purpose in life (i guess being a West Coast Avenger isn't enough)...

...so MODOK attacks while Iron Man is fundraising for Stark's next big project.

Yorgon talks through a radio transmitter and Iron Man quickly figures out that MODOK is not his usual self. It's said that he's not even moving his mouth. It would have been creepier to play that up a bit more, but there are a few scenes in the battle where MODOK is drawn with a snarl or a grin on his face.

I would have preferred a completely static face, as we do have in other panels, for maximum emphasis on this being a zombie version.

Ultimately, this rigged up MODOK isn't as powerful as the original, and Yorgon is forced to trigger a self-destruct switch.

Obviously, AIM isn't pleased with the loss of MODOK, and Yorgon is imprisoned.

With that settled, Iron Man begins construction on his new project, which is a space station.

Comments

Note that Bethany leaves Tony this issue to return to her husband, and when she finally finds him in issues 207-208, it seems like several days have passed for Tony. Bethany must have had a really lousy travel agent.

This Scientist Supreme is eventually named as Valdemar Tykkio, if you want to track him.

Thanks, Walter. I know we never learn the secret of Yorgon, but i might as well track his brother's appearances as well.

Eeeww... is that a MODOK arm flying away from the explosion?
