Ka-Zar #12-13Issue(s): Ka-Zar #12, Ka-Zar #13 Review/plot: To be fair, there are some differences. Ka-Zar's friend Tongah is along for the ride this time, for example. And the denizens of this hidden city are worth some mention. The good guys are kind of like Jerry Seinfeld's black and white cookie; in order to promote racial harmony, they paint themselves with stripes of the opposite color... ...and are therefore called Zebra-Men. The bad guys are a big rip off. They're called Lizard-Men. But they're not Lizard-Men! They're just dudes wearing lizard hats (and, granted, riding giant lizards). You may be able to get away with that in a neutral environment, like, say, Des Moines, Iowa, but this is the Savage Land. They have actual Lizard-Men. One of the priests also turns out to be from the outside world. But even with all that, it's hardly a change in direction from the previous issues. This being the Savage Land, there are still plenty of fun art opportunities, like this scene of Ka-Zar taming a triceratops to use as a mount... ...and this cool skull fort that the priests use. And there's plenty of action and derring do (i like something about Larry Hama's art in this panel). One of the more unusual bits is that Ka-Zar chases the second priest up a long staircase, and they wind up outside the Savage Land, in Antarctica. It's not totally out of the reach of the Savage Land, though, since the priest gets eaten by a snow-worm. Posted by: Mark Drummond | February 11, 2015 9:23 PM Yeah, there were zombies and some kind of deal with a headless skeleton and a magic lizard skull. And last arc had a talking statue. *shrug* ;-) Posted by: fnord12 | February 11, 2015 9:37 PM Wow, had no idea Russ Heath had done any Marvel work. Issue #12 is gorgeous.
