Marvel Comics Presents #139 (Batroc)Issue(s): Marvel Comics Presents #139 (Batroc story only) Review/plot: ![]() This Batroc story takes place in Montreal, and it uses extremely over-the-top French accents. Batroc is walking down the street when a bomb goes off in a bank, and a woman hires him to rescue her husband, a bank manager that was caught in the explosion. ![]() Inside the bank he finds (if my Comic French Accent to English dictionary is correct) Adam and the Goon Squad. ![]() Batroc deals with them, including their telekinetic "midget" leader. ![]() ![]() ![]() The bank manager then tries to take credit for everything. ![]() The press eventually lose interest and walk away. Batroc even returns the money he was paid. ![]() Goofy. At his best, Batroc can be an interesting character. A "bad guy" and a mercenary, but honorable. At his worst, he's a joke. In action this story is somewhat in line with the former, but in tone it very much reinforces the latter. I've seen a lot of Rob Liefeld / Jim Lee imitators, but a McFarlane imitator? That's new...
