Marvel Comics Presents #158 (ClanDestine)

Cover Date: Jul 94
Title: "Scare tactics"
Credits:
Alan Davis - Writer

Richard Ashford - Editor

Review/plot:
This was meant to be a quick introduction/advertisement for ClanDestine. And, i mean, it is. The (slight) problem is that it has to take place after (at least) the initial arc of the ClanDestine series. So if you read this first, it kind of ruins the build-up that happens there. Not a big deal, by any means. It's really just an excuse to show off the new characters with some Alan Davis splash panels.

The story just has Rory and Pandora Destine in what turns out to be a training exercise intended to scare them out of their super-heroic inclinations. But it doesn't work.

Quality Rating: C

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: This has to take place after the initial ClanDestine arc, when Rory and Pandora discover that their entire family are super-powered. The MCP have it even later, after the entire initial ClanDestine series and the 1996 X-Men & ClanDestine series. Per Don Campbell's comment, Alan Davis himself thought that this should take place after X-Men & ClanDestine.

Comments

According to a post by Alan Davis himself on his Alan Davis Forum website from 10 years ago, he "had always hoped that (the MCP story) would be published after the X-Men ClanDestine in any TPB."

Besides, it fits better there. In X-Men & the ClanDestine #1, the adult Destines are discussing whether to allow the twins to fight crime whereas in the MCP story the training session idea is presented as Walter's last-ditch attempt to scare the twins out of doing something that the adults have agreed to let them do.

Thanks, Don. I guess this entry is just going to have to sit in limbo for a while then.
