Review/plot:
I wonder if it's just a coincidence that in the same issue where Mark Badger is drawing a Dr. Strange story, we have Peter Gillis writing a Clea story, since both creators worked on the previous Dr. Strange series together. Was Gillis originally going to write the Strange story as well? I like the idea of this series being used to let creators continue their runs that have otherwise come to a close.

In any event, this is a Clea solo story, and there's nothing wrong with Ron Lim's art.

It's nice to see Clea dealing with the problems of leadership.

As she's talking a walk to clear her head, she comes across a part of the Dark Dimension that she hasn't seen before, and comes across a guardian put in place by Dormammu.

She initially has some trouble defeating the guardian, but recalls her "dear, blockheaded Dr. Stephen Strange" and uses light magic against it. The guardian doesn't like that.

And it turns out that Dormammu had the guardian guarding a flower.

A nice little story, with as much insight about Dormammu as Clea. Ultimately meaningless like most of the short stories in Marvel Comics Presents, but still a nice little check-in with Clea.

Comments

I never understood why Clea referenced Corazon Aquino, of all leaders that took power after a dictatorship.
The idea that Dormammu's flame is inherently corrupting is never mentioned again.
Clea has trouble remembering a spell in this story. I get that the idea is that it's been a long time since she used Strange's magic but I always assumed she had a near-photographic memory for spells.
I always found the idea that Dormammu was scared of a flower to be lame.
