When he finds out what they are about, he pretends to knock himself out.

It's a Newspaper Spider-Man story!

I couldn't stand this story. The animal kidnappers claim that the experiments are unnecessary because they've been done before and Peter acts like that's a valid argument. (That's one of the major pseudoscientific claims of people that oppose animal testing, by the way.) Peter's a SCIENTIST- he should know that the hallmark of science is REPRODUCIBILITY. It's a cheap way of validating bad anti-animal testing arguments by having the hero agree with them. (And yes, there are legitimate arguments against animal testing but don't pretend the experiments aren't usually necessary.)
