Review/plot:
Aquarian is walking down the road when a pair of rednecks decide to shoot the weird hippie.

But it's not as simple as that. When Aquarian asks them what they are up to, one guy kills himself...

...and the other one tries to do the same, but Aquarian stops him.

It turns out that the two men are Watchdogs (Marvel's current equivalent of the KKK, if you haven't been following Captain America). They killed an FBI agent that was investigating them. The agent was recently married to the sister of one of the killers, the one that shot himself. Aquarian visits the wife, who also tries to kill herself when she hears the news. But Aquarian stops her, shows her what death is like, and then convinces her to contact the authorities.

Meanwhile, the Sub-Mariner punches whale hunting in the face.

Quality Rating: C

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: The MCP place the Aquarian story after his appearance in Quasar #4 and the Namor story (with a number of other Marvel Comics Presents appearances) before Namor #1. His story here takes place over the course of two months. I should note that some of the boat-goers notice and recognize the Sub-Mariner, but his faked death is already the worst kept secret in the world so i guess i won't worry about it.

References:

  • Namor says that he has to get back to searching for the spawn of Marrina. There's a footnote to Avengers #296.

Crossover: N/A

Continuity Insert? N

Comments

For a throwaway book, that's some nice, detailed art on the Namor story.
