Review/plot:
The Black Cat is discovered sleeping in a bed at the Palace of Versailles.

She flees through a secret passage, and finds a treasure map that she and "Gilles" were looking for (or is Gilles a historical figure that i don't know about?). But finding the map is all part of someone's plan.

She goes to a partner, not named Gilles, but named Herve Marat, who works at the Office of Antiquarian.

It turns out that he's also working for the Kingpin.

The Black Cat winds up walking into a trap set by the French gendarmes.

She manages to escape.

I suspect my ignorance in French history? folklore? is hurting me on this one, but i do recognize the name Poirot. The Black Cat at least manages to get revenge on Herve Marat by planting a stolen necklace on him, which is discovered by airline security as Marat is leaving for Istanbul per the Kingpin's request.

Comments

I assume the reference is to Agatha Christie's creation, the great Belgian detective Hercule Poriot.

This story kinda shows how the Black Cat could be a character for telling different types of stories than standard super-hero fare.
She could be used as a kind of ambiguous international cat burglar, to tell "heist" type stories with a different tone.
Kinda the way Ive always thought Paladin could have been used in more of a spy/james bond superhero stories or Misty Knight/Colleen Wing for more detective type stories.
It would allow heroes to have their own niches for writers who want to explore other genres.
