Review/plot:
The Sub-Mariner is caught up in an experimental Soviet fishing boat that is using a vacuum to catch fish. They destroy a living reef and its entire ecosystem in the process. To make things extra illegal, they're doing it off the coast of the US.

The Soviet sailors don't speak English, so Namor is forced to rampage around the boat until they all take the hint and abandon ship...

...and then he destroys the fishing boat, hoping that in time it will form the basis of a new reef.

It's nice to see Jim Mooney doing a little something, but the usual "WTF is the point of this?" question applies, as it does to most Marvel Comics Presents stories.

Quality Rating: D+

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Namor has wings on his feet in this story, placing this prior to Namor #6-9.

Comments

This reminds me that back in 1975's Invaders #1 Namor claimed to be capable of reading "most languages in the planet" (well, that is the translation of what the Brazilian comic said). Apparently there are some indications that language assimilation is one of his powers. But it does not seem to make him capable of speaking Russian in this story.
