Review/plot:
This is really a Shadowcat and Meggan story, although the rest of Excalibur do show up at the end. In the meantime, they are out shopping, and Kitty and Meggan have to rescue a pair of shipwrecked Russian sailors outside the Excalibur lighthouse on their own. They're observed by the villain of the piece, whose name is Cypress.

It turns out the Russians are really scientists. They've been working in England for Roxxon for the past few years, and they've recently developed a formula that they've realized could be used as a deadly biological weapon. So they fled, keeping the last bit of the formula to themselves, but they're pursued by Cypress. Kitty develops a crush on the bigger of the two Russians, for obvious reasons.

Kitty tries to protect the scientists from Cypress...

...but the other scientist is suspicious of her powers, and lets go of her hand when she tries to phase him to protect him from Cypress' bullets.

And in the end, the one scientist shoots the other to prevent anyone from getting the formula.

Not sure what the deal with Cypress is but neither he nor anything else in this story is important.

Historical Significance Rating: 1

Chronological Placement Considerations: Kitty is still under the impression that the X-Men are dead, so this needs to take place before Uncanny X-Men #272.
