Marvel Comics Presents #78 (Hulk)Issue(s): Marvel Comics Presents #78 (Hulk story only) Review/plot: He continues to not be interested after she drains the life of the bartender in front of him. She tries attacking him but that doesn't work out either. And at this point he's mad, so she tries to bribe him into not attacking her. I'm not sure what the 90s comment means. He doesn't want AIDS, maybe? Later, Magneto is fretting to Emma Frost about Selene being late for a Hellfire Club meeting. She shows up and, er, what? She sure looks, um, satisfied, but i don't think that's what was meant to have happened. Telling Magneto to stop being so arrogant or the Hulk might beat you up isn't bad advice, though. My opinion of Marvel Comics Presents is low in general, and lower when it's about characters that had their own series, and lower still when the character had their own series and the story here is by an inferior creative team. But Dwight Jon Zimmerman handles the depiction of grey Hulk pretty well, and the attempt at more 3D looking characters by Brian Stelfreeze is interesting (i'm not sure it works, but i'll grant that this book is a place to try stuff like this). And at least this is a look back on a version of the Hulk that wasn't currently walking around (although that was surely due to the strange backlogged schedule of Marvel Comics Presents than anything deliberate). The story loses me with the ending, though. I'd say that this story is also interesting for being a rare case of looking at the Hellfire Club while Magneto was the sole King, but it's not like they actually do anything. Quality Rating: C- Chronological Placement Considerations: Takes place while the Hulk is grey and while Magneto is with the Hellfire Club (presumably after New Mutants #75 when Sebastian Shaw has been kicked out). The Hulk is in New York for some reason, so maybe this takes place soon after Atlantis Attacks. References: N/A Crossover: N/A Continuity Insert? Y My Reprint: N/A
CommentsI think ol' Joe Fixit was the only man to survive a romp with Selene. She looks entirely too pleased with herself. Posted by: Vin the Comics Guy | November 30, 2015 9:28 PM The idea of either the Hulk or Selene being able to contract AIDS is iffy.
