Characters Appearing: Galactus, Nova (Frankie Raye)
Marvel Comics Presents #93-96 (Nova)
Issue(s): Marvel Comics Presents #93, Marvel Comics Presents #94, Marvel Comics Presents #95, Marvel Comics Presents #96 (Nova story only)
A four part story about Nova (the herald of Galactus, not the New Warrior) is a good thing to do with Marvel Comics Presents. This story has Nova reflecting back on the first world that she brought Galactus to, and serendipitously (i.e., probably not due to any coordination) it was published after Silver Surfer #51, where the Surfer convinced Nova to care about the lives of the people whose planets Galactus was eating. Before that, she had made it clear that she didn't care about "bug-eyed monsters" on other planets, so it wouldn't have made a lot of sense for her to be reflecting back with any regret.
A few vehicles' worth of the beings from that first planet managed to escape, and Nova decides now to track down their fleet and see if she can help them. She finds that they are now under the control of a religious leader driven crazy by his encounter with Galactus.
Nova agrees to help them find a new home, but the leader being nuts presents a problem. So like, for example, when Nova has to defend the fleet from a space worm and one of the shuttles gets damaged, the leader tells her not to worry about the damaged shuttle because he'll take care of it, but he takes care of it by blowing the shuttle up. And then it turns out that the leader is actually directing the entire fleet into a black hole. But Nova manages to rescue all but the lead ship carrying the leader, and she gets the rest of the exiles to safety on a new planet.
Despite the occasional space worm, it's a quiet story that does examine the implications of Nova's work for Galactus (she recognizes that the leader going crazy is partially her fault). And the alien characters allow for some nice art.
