Marvel Comics Presents #99 (Spider-Man)Issue(s): Marvel Comics Presents #99 (Spider-Man story only) Review/plot: So it's just a cute little story as the two keep missing each other because of MJ's responsibilities as a model and Peter having to stop crimes as Spider-Man. Peter eventually goes home thinking that he's not going to turn in the film on time, but he learns that MJ turned in the film for him. Nothing super-special here, but it's nice to see Spider-Man fighting ordinary crime, and there's more character in this short story than in most of Spider-Man's books published in 1992. I also liked the art layouts. The faces aren't always that great, but the kind of generic 80s house style shots of Spider-Man swinging around town and fighting street criminals in his black costume had a little bit of a nostalgia appeal for me. Quality Rating: C- Chronological Placement Considerations: This takes place after Peter and MJ are married, but Peter is wearing his black costume, so this probably takes place before he promises MJ not to wear it in Amazing Spider-Man #300. MJ is also working as a model, not a soap opera star (which confirms that it would go at least before Amazing Spider-Man #322). The MCP place it between Amazing Spider-Man #292-293. CommentsOne thing puzzles me about this- what was this story originally intended for? Peter switched back to the red-and-blues in Amazing Spider-Man 300, which was published four months before Marvel Comics Presents 1. So were they soliciting stories for Marvel Comics Presents considerably in advance of the first issue? Or was this intended for another series, and if so, what? Posted by: Michael | May 16, 2016 8:20 PM Purely speculating, but maybe it was a try-out story for the writer and/or the penciler? (I don't recognize either name, but i'm willing to concede ignorance!) Posted by: cullen | May 17, 2016 12:44 AM Comments are now closed. |
